Elizabeth was born with the eye of a photographer but it wasn't until her mid-forties that she was able to pursue her passion seriously. After graduating from the University of Westminster with an honours degree in photography she began to concentrate on portraits.
Since then she has undertaken many private commissions, has had a number of exhibitions, and has collaborated with her writer husband on five books. She seeks in her portraits to capture the essence of her subjects, usually photographing them in their normal surroundings without the aid of artificial lighting.
She has pioneered novel ways of portraiture, including her 'joiners' which reveal the different aspects of a person or a family and, most recently, her Still Lives where she asks her subjects to display five objects and a flower that symbolize what is important to them in life. Her own Still Life centres around her camera, but includes clues to her country home, her husband and children as well as her love of the routines of life and reading.
This retrospective exhibition includes examples of each category of her work. The photographs are not for sale, but Elizabeth is always ready to discuss commissions for which she charges the actual costs involved, together with a sitting fee which goes directly to a charity of her choice.
